I have seen one comment saying that Sita never stood for justice and was someone without substance. This is funny considering that the incarnation of Sita itself happened for the justice to prevail - the sory of justice which was needed for all those who were brutally killed and vehemently raped by the demon king Ravan. That demon who was aa heartless as they come. Thirty three crore demigods led by Lord Indra approached Brahma to help them freed from atrocities of his great grand son. Vishnu voluntarily arrived there with Garuda as his vehicle and promised to incarnate as four humans to put an end to this misery once and for all. Lord incarnated and twenty years passed. There seemed to be only inaction from Rams side. Where is Ayodhya and where is Lanka? How will Ram ever be able to know about Ravan let alone killing him? Ram, one must know, was the supreme God who self manifests. Vishnu, as such, had no parents and on the contrary it was he who parented the whole universe. He was one who never had the privilege to experience the affection parents. So when Vishnu incarnated as Ram he was clearly lost in the love of his parents especially Dasrath who loved him to the core being a first child who was born in 60000 years. Ram was leading a life of a king and was extremely soft natured for a Kshatriya too and was nowhere looked like fulfilling the promise he made to the demigods and sages. At this juncture an opportunity presented itself as demigods operated upon the mind of Kaikeyi to displace Ram with Mantra as their tool. Ram was willing to go the forest for 14 years. When he went and told Sita about it she understood that it was time for Ram to fulfill his promise of freeing the world of demons. She was interested in going with him. Ram was keeping on refusing and at one point of time went on to say that the forests are haunted with demons and wild animals and so it was not advisable for her to travel with him. Sita was shocked. What is this? Her husband who was the enemy of demons was instead advising her about the possible danger which could ensue owing to them? Where was his promise to demigods? Instead of saying I will destroy all demons he was speaking like a sage? Sita who accompanied Rama for the purpose of eradicating the evil did not like it. For her all virtuous people were like her sons not to say about demigods who had surrendered to them. As a mother of them she could not allow them to be betrayed. When Ram threatened saying that the demons occupied forests she thought to use his own words against him. She sensed an opprtunity here. Ram would be angry when someone would trouble her and if she would accompany Ram there was a big possibility of it happening. So she shot back. She provoked Ram and brought a Kshatriya in him. She said , alas, my father janaka has been cheated. Thinking that you are a valiant warrior he had me married to you. Had he known that you are a female in the disguise of a male he would have never done it. I never knew that you were such a coward who could not save your wife should some danger occur to me. These words made its magic. Ram could not brook this insult. He immediately agreed to take her with him. Years were passing and the exile was coming to an end almost. In a fit of rage Rama made a vow to all the sages he would kill all the demons with Ravana as their king. But how was he going to do it? He was so attached to her and was also bent upon going back to Ayodhya to see his mother Kausalya and other nears and dears. So she clandestinely gave an idea. She says, Though you made a vow to kill all demons I know you wont unnecessarily trouble them because they are not harming you. So is it going to happen like something that I get separated from you and hence you will kill all of them? This question she asked and by that she also gave an idea to him that she should be separated. Only one year for the exile to end and still nothing happening. Sita was going restless and Ram hardly looked like fulfilling his vow. Then came that golden deer incident. Sita sensed yes it was the opportunity. One thing was for sure Ram never used to kill anyonw in front of her. When she was with him he never used to lose his cool. Her presence smoothened him always. Even when Viradha was taking him away along with Lakshmana Rama did not attempt to kill him. As soon as he realised he was no more within the reach of Sita he used long handle. A week back too he let Lakshmana escort her safely into a cave before finishing off 13999 demons. He never did killings in Sitas presence. So when Mareech came she called Ram to go after the deer. When Lakshmana could identify the deer how could Sita ever failed identifying the source of the deer. She did. So she urged her husband to go after it. Ram left but Lakshmana stayed. Now how to drive him away. Mareech shouted in Rams voice before he succumbed to Rams brahmasthra. Sita sensed an opprtunity again. So long as Lakshmana stayed there Ravana would not dare come there. But despite hearing Rams voice he was unmoved. Sita urged him to go. But Lakshmana was not going to yield. He was sure no one could cause any danger to Ram? Even Sita knew it as she found 13999 dead bodies the other day in janasthana. So how would anyone cause a trouble to Ram let alone killing him. Her anxiety to help demigods turned her against immovable Lakshmana. Its Ramas vow to sages and demigods which was more important than his order to Lakshmana to stay there. So she used the worst words possible to rebuke him. Lakshmana could not tolerate it anymore. He left the place. Ravana abducted her and guess who sported a wide smile. It was Brahma. He understood half the job was done. Ramas soft nature left him and he assigned the form of destroyer. Sita sacrificed herself thus for justice by separating herself from Ram for one full year ( ten months to be precise). She knew it was impossible for both of them to live without the other. But it was also essential that Ravana s end happened. Thats why when Hanuman came she repeatedly insisted multiple times to bring Rama there to end Ravana. Yes she did stand for justice and achieved a greater purpose. Draupadi just stood against injustice happened to her whereas Sita stood against injustice done to others- Vedavatu& Punchahasthala and Ramba to name a few. Ram
