I have some GREAT news from Papas oncologist today! TODAY IS DADs LAST CHEMO TREATMENT OF THE YEAR! What with Christmas being next week, and New Years soon after, Dr. Rodriguez decided that hed give dad a bit of a break on his treatment. He has gained a whopping 6 lbs since the last one, and his blood counts are looking optimistic. Dr. Rodriguez said that his blood markers seem to indicate that the tumors are responding to chemo treatment, but hes a little bit on the fence because other counts are a little wobbly. Dad will be going in for a transfusion tomorrow to help keep him up above what they want, and the break from chemo will give his body a chance to recover and work back to its natural equilibrium so that the doctors can tell for sure. After the holidays, Papa will be going in on January 7th to have his CT scan done earlier than we originally thought, as well! At the moment Dr. Rodriguez plans to have him resume chemo after the CT scan, but as always well know more as time goes by. :) The nurses at the Cancer Treatment Center have been very impressed with Eds progress through out. 9 chemo treatments over 5 months is quite a bit, but dad has yet to get sick or have any serious complications. A few side effects, of course (he is going to smoke me out of the house if he turns the heat up anymore!), but nothing that has anyone concerned. Hes maintained his weight, gained back some muscle tone, and is as ornery as ever. Thank you everyone for your continued support, prayers, good feelings, and happy thoughts! Papas kicking this cancer and all its related statistics in the ass, and were definitely not done fighting yet. With so many friends and family members in our corner of the ring, this disease picked the wrong person to pick a fight with! Because now half the Air Force and Greater St. Louis Area are at our backs and ready to fight tooth and claw!
