I have something I want to share with everyone. This past week I had a family in where I work who have been using our beach as a family reunion spot for 51 years. The entire entourage consists of 29 members as of this year coming from all over the U.S. including California. Its certainly flattering to know people are traveling that far to our beach. They are very concerned about this town. They are having a tough time convincing the younger members of their family to come here without a fight. No more arcade or rides or New York fries and candy floss to keep the kids busy. No more worthy beach front shopping for the women. Restaurants are chains much like they get at home. The whole beach holiday atmosphere seems to have gone since the fire. I sent them to Catch 22 for their dinner but since its so busy Im not sure if they were able to get a reservation for 6. Hopefully they did. They commented how underutilized the beach area is and what a waste. They say this beach is more beautiful than so many of the California beaches yet we seem to have gone to a senior residential town. They reminisced about our past years right up to the fire. They feel the spark has gone from this place. I should have been more on the ball and given them a visitors guide and asked them to write their feelings to the Mayor. I was hoping I would see them one more time before they left town but I didnt. I would hate for us to lose a family like this who come back year after year hoping things will go back to somewhat normal. They were made aware of the fall election and possible great changes coming. I really hope to see them again next year.
