I have the best job for Boeing, the best Aerospace company in the world! I am blessed to be able to travel to Universities and STEM Diversity events aound the country to find students to fill entry level and intern positions at Boeing. Toniight I am at an awards ceremony for HENAAC. Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference. The emcee is Belita Moreno the mom on the George Looez Show. At past HENAAC events I met Jon Secada and Jose Hernandez one of people featured on HBO Latino List and one of the few Hispanic Space Shuttle Mission officers. Tonight I met Calvin Mackey. He was featured on the Spike Lee Documentary called When the Levies Broke and a former engineering department chair at Tulane University. His Brother is Actor Anthony Mackey..aka Papa Doc in 8 Mile and the Hurt Locker and about to be starring as the Falcon first Black Marvel comics superhero in the next captain America movie and a forthcoming avengers movie. So often when I talk to k-12 students they express a desire to be entertainers or athletes. I believe this is because they are celebrated on grammy, emmy, espy, peoples choice, source, and bet awards. I wish we could televise NSBE, HENAAAC, SHPE, SWE, Women of Color Awards so people can see amazing engineering accomplishments develop aspirations for more realistic goals.
