I have to go through some more boxes with old letters, cards, etc. from years ago to find stuff from Peter, and I am finding things from people who I used to be close to and had to cut ties with, other things from people who passed away and so many from people who I simply lost touch with. Former students, teachers, a bunch of people who wrote to me when I was away with the service, military buddies, relatives. The saddest ones arent the ones from people who caused me pain and that I had to cut ties with, sometimes with no conversation. Nope... the worst ones are letters and cards from people, many of whom I am still close to, who I remember hurting, however inadvertently. Thats tough... remembering the image someone once had of you, then seeing how it changed, whether fairly or not. Im not talking about Earth-shattering mistakes , but more just not being there when i should have, not handling transitions/ endings correctly, not being honest... much of it was from 15 years ago or before, but man, it still burns. Gonna expand my list of people I owe amends to this week.
