I have to say I admire the artistic adventure of these two performers. But I also have to say that the worst mad-as-hornets reaction I ever witnessed to a performance was when M. Barishnykov came to my former city for a gig as a featured performer with the Mark Morris White Oak Dance Project. If there had been barricades, they would have been stormed. If there had been pitchforks and torches, they would have been brandished. I think people were expecting him to do classical ballet, but thats not what the company he was with, was doing. Our editorial page could have feasted on the outraged letters for weeks. But anyway, good for these two for testing and ignoring boundaries and expectations of others. Getting older doesnt have to be surrender.
