I have to say that American society has completely devolved from one in which careful thought preceded life-changing opinions and acts (and the definition of patriotism was generally accepted by all, whatever their political persuasion) to the current zero to outrage state of constant, exhausting high alarm... and the reason for nearly all of it, for some reason, placed at the foot of this one particular president. I cannot, and will not, accept from anyone ANY opinions about ANYthing when the person opining can give no evidence that he or she understands that there are two sides to every story. If you insist that someone is 100% bad/wrong/guilty, then you are not thinking critically. In fact, you are not thinking at all. I didnt enjoy the tenures of Reagan or Bush. I didnt believe that they stood for the right things. But for the gods sweet sake, no one ever witnessed me fulminating day in and day out about them in a hail of loathesome words without end. I was able to declare approval of those things they did that I felt worthy of it. And I was able to intuit that not every single thing that occurred in this country and elsewhere could be directly tied to either presidents acts or beliefs. I see nearly none of that sort of comprehension these days in those who dont enjoy the fact of this presidency. And that is honestly a terrifying reality for me. People with so little ability to understand exactly how much they do NOT understand are dangerous. And I think our society is at risk because of them. Probably more than at any time I can think of in its history.
