I have tried, on occasion, to explain to some that being a part of the military is not always about being on the front lines and carrying a gun. Its about working as a team to accomplish the mission regardless of what your role as a team member is. For example, if it werent for logistics our men and women on the front lines wouldnt have the equipment they need. It struck me the other night in Memphis how seemingly insignificant these skills might seem to some. As I watched a valet park a car in a really tight spot, it dawned on me that there was no way I could have worked in motor pool! My children will tell you that I CAN NOT park a car unless it is at an angle and even then if I have widely sufficient space! (I made an A in algebra and a C in drivers ed with an F in parallel parking.) And heaven forbid if I try to back up with a trailer. (I have a little trailer I pull behind my lawn tractor on the Monkey Farm. If I need to back it up, I get off, unhitch it and put it where I want.) While perhaps funny, my point is that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. The military capitalizes on an individuals strengths for the good of the mission. Because if it were up to me, the generals would be walking from the north 40. :-D
