I havent posted about the Harris family here since the day of the tragedy, not because I didnt care, but because I had no words. My heart is broken for them. For those outside of the community, the brothers Kenyon, Broderick and Braylon Harris decided to spend the night at their paternal Grandmothers, Terry Harris, Thursday so she wouldnt be alone on Christmas. They, along with their Grandmother parished when her house caught fire early Friday morning. Like most of you reading, I didnt know the Harris family personally. I know many people that loves them, and many kids that were friends with the boys. But as a mother, I cannot fathom the thought of losing my children at all, let alone all at once and in such a tragic way. As a community, a loss like this has rocked us all. If you knew them or not, your heart aches for them. This family has lost a mother, grandmother, sister, sons, cousins, grandsons, nephews. Something we can all relate to. They need our support and encouragement, but they dont need us in their faces or in their business. So what can we do? On Saturday, January 17th, a Chicken Noodle dinner Benefit will be held from 4pm-7pm at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Dinners are $10 each and all proceeds go to help the family with any and all expenses they will be incurring through this tragedy. To go boxes are available if you do not/cannot stay to eat. You can donate time, money or food to cut the expenses. Also, a fund has been set up at 5/3rd Bank here in WCH. It is for the Harris family in care of Angie Haithcock. Angie is the daughter of Terry and the Aunt of the brothers. Support our local school sport teams. The Harris boys were very active in school and extra curricular sports. It is something they all enjoyed and the programs always need funds to continue. The boys loved animals. Make a donation in their names, or volunteer your time to the Humane Society or program of your choice in memory and in honor of them. Lastly, but probably most importantly, remember them. Remember their names. Honor them by never taking advantage of the precious time you have with your own family. Tomorrow is never promised. Tell people you love them. Show them you love them. Put your problems into perspective today as Tracy and Ricky, as well as their family, lay their four loved ones to rest. Remember what is important. I have been told this was ever present in their family, and that they were very involved in everything the kids did. That will be moments they can hold onto, when their arms feel empty. To the Harriss family, I can only offer you my deepest sympathy and condolences. No words can take away your pain. No words can heal your grieving hearts. Just know that you have the entire community standing just beyond your family and friends, and we are binding together to help hold you up. I pray you find some comfort in knowing how much we truly care about you all. **Please comment or message me about any other ways you know of to support this family in any way. If you are not local and would still like to donate to the Benefit Dinner, please send a check or money order to: The Well at Sunnyside, 721 S Fayette, Washington C H OH 43160 and in the memo line put for the Harris Family Benefit.**
