I heard a story today of some little girls in a detention facility - TopicsExpress

I heard a story today of some little girls in a detention facility near here for unaccompanied children caught crossing the border illegally. They are without parents, without family, alone. These are very young little girls. They were sitting in a small group together, singing in this detention facility. They were asked what they were singing and they responded, Alabanzas, or praise songs they had learned in their churches in Nicaraugua, Guatelmala, and the other places they called home. Two things I like to remember about this: first, they are children. And second, they are fellow human beings. I am so touched that in all they have gone through, and away from anyone or anything they know, they reach down deep to give praise to God. To think of my own children in a similar situation brings me to tears. I ask myself what Jesus would do and I have to follow my heart on this. I am pushing hard to find out how I can put actions to my beliefs and help these children in these facilities. I am not getting into politics here- I am getting into helping the most vulnerable of children.
