I heard heartbreaking testimony from Central American migrant children at a Congressional Progressive Caucus ad hoc hearing this afternoon. The children described the horrible experiences they escaped in their home countries, and the poor treatment they received after they arrived here in the United States. At American facilities, they were given little food and forced to sleep on the floor. Congress will soon consider supplemental spending legislation to provide the funding our government needs to treat these children humanely and afford them due process rights. At this time, it is so important for Members of Congress to hear directly from migrant children like the ones who spoke at today’s hearing. Their plight must be at the forefront of our minds as we fight for a clean supplemental that contains enough funding to meet the needs we face at the border and address this humanitarian crisis.
