I heard on Lateline last night that the Australian government is putting aside $80 million dollars for the search for the missing airliner somewhere off the coast of WA. It is hard to imagine a more stupidly wasteful use of money, especially in a time of budget emergency when so many worthwhile projects have been ruthlessly slashed. What is the point of this? Its gone and there is no possibility of any survivors. Even if they do eventually locate it, what possible benefit could this discovery be for anyone. Sometimes the most sensible course of action is just to let the occasional ball go through to the keeper.
