I honestly dont think most people have wrapped their minds around just how much the 3-D printer is going to be capable of changing our world. It will open the door for levels of creativity and ingenuity that have never been available to us before. It will make the development of a prototype nearly inconsequential to innovators and developers. At the same time it will make the need to buy replacements of things nearly irrelevant. A person could buy one item they really like, duplicate it, and just print another whenever they run out. Instead of distributing a product you can distribute an electronic data file plan for an item and then the destination purchaser anywhere in the world could print the product completely bypassing customs, import and export laws and regulations and product taxation. It is going to change industry, patenting, distribution, marketing, and every other aspect of research and development, marketing and distribution, and national and international trade. Companies that dont get ahead on this technology are going to be quickly left behind.
