The Wagner Ring Cycle Documentary “In the eye of the ring”, written by Wagner enthusiast Bruno Lussato (1932-2009), is certainly one of the best introductions to Richard Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung. Especially for beginners, the world of Richard Wagner is full of unknown symbols and his music is coined by the extensive use of Leitmotifs. In the eye of the ring starts with an introduction telling us everything important, what has happened before the curtain rises and introduces the main characters. In a logical and chronological order of the events the ring cycle documantary goes through the 4 operas of the epic The Ring of the Nibelung, Das Rheingold (The Rhine Gold), Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), Siegfried and Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods), giving knowledge about the storyline, the characters, the symbols and the leitmotifs. Bruno Lussato also presents his own views and interpretations. In the eye of the ring isn`t just teaching Wagner beginners, it`s also very interesting for cult following Wagnerians.
