I interrupt the flow of daily personal tidbits for an actual Professional Announcement: Poison Prevention Week (PPW) is Sun March 16 - Sat March 22; Why is that important? Well it surprises most people to find that poisonings are the number one cause of injury death in the US (yes, more than gunshots or traffic accidents) according to the CDC. The Cincinnati Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC) at Childrens Hospital has toxicology certified pharmacists, nurses, and physicans available 24/7-365 to help in the case of exposure to a potentially poisonous substance. 90% of poisonings can be treated at home so we also save the healthcare system money by preventing unecessary ER visits (nationally over $1.8 billion/year).
