I just an awesome conversation with an elderly Japanese man on my tour about 30min ago. Despite the small language barrier we made it through. My limited Japanese and his severely broken English proved that hand gestures and body motions are enough to hold a conversation. But the funny part came when he tried to explain to me that he had seen the Kamehameha statue before. In the end I knew what he meant, but it came off as if he seen it facing the other way when it first was erected, and then this time its facing how it is now, toward the street. And then he went on and it sounded as if he knew Kamehameha himself. I cordially asked him So how old are you really?. He just smiled and put his hand up and gestured very high (old).
