I just came across the (new) official LDS church explanation of why race had been a factor with who could receive the priesthood. I was never comfortable with the previous justifications given about denying the priesthood to those descending from Cain. It makes much more sense theologically and spiritually and I am sharing to help stop the spread of the previous explanations. Although it is very unfortunate to those who failed to receive temple blessings on this earth because of it. https://lds.org/topics/race-and-the-priesthood With this though, I just want to make clear that my faith is in no way shaken in following the prophet. He leads and guides this church through inspiration. He is one of the two lines of communication with God, the other being personal revelation. Being a Christian will always take faith as some points of doctrine cant be explained convincingly to those who oppose it other than through spiritual means (i.e. by personal revelation). Despite the need for constant study, religion will always have an element of faith involved, in things which are not seen (or have a complete explanation) (Hebrews 11).
