I just discovered something that I really like... Noise music has always eluded me. The best works of the genre are effortless creations produced with calculated effort and boundary-less technology. As someone who was introduced to electronic music in the DAW age and taught that the best producers work with a screen in front of them, my scope before this project has been admittedly limited. But, through time and effort, Ive developed the ability to separate my eyes and my ears - to create by listening, not by watching. It is an ability I believe the best musicians possess, and the best noise musicians embody wholly. Thats not to say that one method of creating is better than another (especially considering the endless frontier that is electronic music), but the homegrown, DIY electronics behind many noise, power electronics, and industrial groups rely not on screens, but on tactile input and exclusively aural analysis. Put simply, all you can do is listen and respond. It therefore makes sense why this music is so bodily, so visceral, so primal, so violent. It requires human input to function and gain emotional depth. When I discovered the process behind the creation of Thousands of Dead Gods, it inspired me: recordings of sharks repeatedly smashing their bodies into diving cages and the reactions of the humans watching, carefully mixed, distorted, and layered in almost an hour-long wall of unchanging noise. But, listen closely, and the source material reveals itself as a singular, devastating work of art.
