I just feel like stirring the pot on the last day of 2014. Yesterday Gov. Nixon signed off on a $2.5 million improvement project for Ferguson. Specifically for sidewalks, bike paths, etc. Regardless of anyones opinion on the outcome with Officer Wilson; it was a decision made by our judicial system, you know - the one defined in Article III of the Constitution. We elect those in office to uphold just that and stand behind it. That being said, what exactly do we owe the city of Ferguson? If someone drives drunk and damages street signs, traffic lights, guard rails, etc; the cost of D.O.T. repairs are itemized and fined to the driver. Everyone can agree to this accountability for damages/loss involving a crime. Likewise, it was crime that destroyed the city of Ferguson, due to riots in protest to said judicial decisions. To me, signing off on this seems to contradict the whole undergone process and undermine the already fragile credibility of our law makers and upholders. The problem has been enabled yet again. But Im just a rationalist. I guess it is a pretty advantageous stimulus (peace offering) though. What better use for $2.5 million than sidewalks...bike paths...............and medians.... *cough* As I stated before, I dont advocate financial relief for the consequences of crime. But in this case Im sure it will bring encouragement to the community as they press on with the clean up. I certainly know it will bring peace of mind to all the businesses still picking up the pieces. Shall I keep going or have I conveyed the opinion that this improvement project may have missed its mark.....?
