I just finished listening to this conference call sponsored by the National Nurses Union on the state of Ebola preparedness in hospitals across this country. Over 11.000 nurses signed in for this call, many reporting that there is little to no training going on and they are grossly lacking necessary safety equipment needed to treat potential Ebola cases. In many instances there are no protocols in place. They also describe in greater detail what happened in Texas. Overall, the reports from around the country reveal a horrifying failure of protocol and lack of responsiveness of government and administrators to ensure health care provider and public health safety. The resounding message from those at the front lines is that they are not being given the tools (including proper information OR gear) to safely do their jobs. We must address this issue in hospitals all over the country immediately in advance of further outbreak. It is extremely important that we, the public, support our health care workers in every way we can by pressuring our hospital administrators and government officials to take immediate action on these matters. After all, what will happen if many of our nurses and doctors get sick from this? Please listen to this information and pass it on. Send it to TV stations so that more people become aware and support our healthcare providers. They are the front line troops in our war against Ebola. They deserve all the support they can get!
