I just finished writing the obituary. *** JoAnn Duckert, 71, of Theresa, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa. JoAnn was born in Milwaukee on September 6, 1943 to George and Bernice (nee Nick) Franklin. In her younger years, she worked as a carhop and enjoyed her chosen profession as a printing pressman. She was a charter member of a Milwaukee motorcycle club and loved living the life of a biker. She was very proud of her time as a Milwaukee Zoo Pride volunteer where she raised two bear cubs (Hawkeye and Trapper John) and was a proud Mandara Mom. In her later years, she enjoyed rummage sales, quilting, and sewing. JoAnn is survived by her mother, Bernice and stepfather Quenton Gross, her daughters Leah Duckert (Jim), Denise (Randy) Sams, and Michele Gerlach (George). She is further survived by siblings Jeanne (Art) Zangerle, Jeff Gross, John Gross, Jay (Linda) Gross and Mary (Eric) VanLare. JoAnn also leaves behind three incredibly close friends, Amy Arredondo, Dianne Geurtsen and Ann Spees. Also grieving are many nieces, nephews, and other friends and family. JoAnn was preceded in death by her father, George Franklin, and nephews Peter Zangerle and Ryan Gross. The family would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Gill for his kind professionalism as well as the entire staff at Zilber Hospice for their amazing care and compassion. A celebration of life will be held Monday, January 26 at the Best Western Hotel at 5501 W. National Avenue from 5pm-8pm.
