I just got back from my endocrinologist. We were concerned that my recent diagnosis of diabetes was related to the autoimmune hemolytic anemia I developed back in 1995. A correlation would have made the diabetes Type 1. Luckily, my pancreas is making insulin so, I have Type 2. When I saw the doctor on 12/23/2014 my A1C was 10.7 (normal is between 4 and 5.6). Today, just one month later, my A1C is down to 8.6. Yay me, I dont have to take insulin! I seem to be doing all the right things. He says, at this rate, I will be off the Metformin and Januvia in 3 to 4 months. Perhaps I will be one of the lucky few who does not develop another autoimmune disease after acquiring AHA.
