I just got home from the fund raiser at Musicland Melbourne where the punters generously donated their money, and the bands generously donated their time. It was to raise money for a wheelchair for Jef G. Risk - well known roadie and shit kicker :) who now has trouble getting around because of deteriorating bones and joints. This will be the first of many as roadies and musos - who have never got compo or super - start losing quality of life. It was absolutely wonderful to be a part of it, and a testament to Melbournes music lovers and bands who give and take with such heart. I co-compered with gorgeous Soozie Pinder, and the bands were Quadbox - Cindy, rock chick extraordinaire, Shane Laffy and the old dudes including my friend Bob Carey on drums, Tony Catz Catania band that just play the best rock dance music, Nikki Nicholls and her band Jam the Funk who are awesome, play funky covers but also included Money from Nikkis new original cd Bridesmaid, and to finish the night off, The Joey Amenta Band who just kicked arse. I was knocked off my chair because we all know what a great guitarist Joey is, but he also writes fantastic songs. Unbelievable. I feel guilty that I havent seen them before. As well as his guitar playing, he also fronts the band and I cant fault him. Anyway, thats enough about Joey!! There were some very generous people today and in the past week many more generous souls have passed on money through friends, and at the end of the night organiser Pixie Michael was proud to inform the crowd that the wheelchair can now be bought outright. Congratulations to everyone. And please, watch out for all these bands here on facebook, go see them and buy their products. This is Melbourne. The music capital of Australia. Even Molly said it!
