I just had a great conversation with my mother. And that doesnt always happen as often as Id like. I want to call her more often, but I dont always do it. But I know I owe her better cause I gave her hell. So I wasnt expecting much, but that talk made everything feel a lot easier. She started talking about prayer, and we ended up talking about God. If yall didnt know, my parents are from Bangladesh, but they werent technically Hindu. They were Brahmo Samaj, a movement that broke away from Hinduism and taught freedom, justice, and equality, championing the rights of Indias Black people and its poor, and teaching against the caste system, inequality, rituals, and the worship of gods outside of Self. Long story short, my mother said, Thats why I go to the pujas (religious ceremonies) to see my friends, but I dont believe in any of that. They go to puja and do all kinds of ceremonies and then do all kinds of unrighteous things after. Then she described her God as the God of Righteousness: righteous word, righteous mind, and righteous action. And I remembered, thats what she raised me on.
