I just heard Cory Doctorow on BookTV. Three times during the Q&A - TopicsExpress

I just heard Cory Doctorow on BookTV. Three times during the Q&A portion, he paused the queue of men waiting to ask a question to ask if there were any women who had a question. Of course, its common when the questioners are chosen from a seated audience to make sure that certain people get their question in. I frequently see children, the speakers peers, someone who hasnt asked a question yet, someone whos been waiting a long time, and someone in back being singled out. Do you do something similar when you speak? Who do you selectively favor?
