I just heard on the radio that some in Okanogan are not communicating by radio or cell phones because their batteries are going dead after prolonged power outage. We NEED to make sure that we have backup options available for powering radios during emergencies! There are 12V chargers for cars, solar chargers, hand-crank chargers, and even adapters that use AA batteries. Please have spare, fully-charged batteries on hand, as well as ways to charge them when they go dead. We owe it to ourselves and others to be able to communicate even in extended grid-down scenarios!
