I just heard that the rate of inflation for college tuition is three times the national average, and that the average college graduate leaves with about 27,000 dollars in debt. In addition, apparently student loans have overtaken credit cards as the principal source for personal debt in this country. Clearly these are systemic problems. There needs to be a way to get institutions to lower the cost of tuition, while simultaneously funding innovation and new markets. Perhaps there should be a high profile school who tests having lower tuition, as well as lower (but still substantial) pay for administrators. Perhaps the focus should be on recognizing the systemic problems and building a better system from within the current one. Perhaps then they would deserve those bonuses they all are so quick to dole out to one another. Perhaps.
