I just received word that Phil Workman has passed away in Paoli, Indiana. Phil was one of the major influences of my life. I remember the VERY first time I met him. 5th grade beginning band at Main Elementary School in Beavercreek. He was my trumpet teacher, high school band director, and the reason I wanted to become a band director myself. I positive role model in EVER sense of the word. I got to spend some time with him a couple months ago, along with Don Parkhurst and Al Nels, my friends from high school. I am grateful for that time, and am sad he is gone. Jessie Stuart, renowned Kentucky author, poet, and educator, said one time that .......Teachers live on forever, through their students..... Phil influenced so many young men and women, and he has grandkids, and great grandkids who are musicians, band and choir directors, and who will never know that because of his lifes work, they are involved with music. A lasting legacy.
