I just sat through all 3 hours, and here are my thoughts: - Cenk had very little substance to contribute, but the three hours seemed like just enough time for Sam to hit back at his defamators. - Favorite quote form Sam: Fundamentalism is only a problem if the fundamentals are a problem. - One of the central problems with Sam Harris in public media is that no one gives him the benefit of the doubt. He is assumed to be unsophisticated and absolutist, even when he goes to great lengths to demonstrate nuance. - Sam isnt perfect in his arguments. He gets into an occasional rhetorical game or two. For example, he claims that his goal is merely to have an honest conversation, and he describes torture as discomfort. Sam also occasionally misspeaks by using absolute terms when he obviously means to qualify them. (all, never, every, etc.) Any public figure subjected to hours of televised debate would do the same, but Sams opponents tend to harp on these mistakes more than others. - Cenk Uygur and Bill OReilly have a nearly identical style, and even occupy similar standard deviations from political moderates.
