Speaking personally: I support the state and the cause of Israel. I dont support Israel because of any religious views. I support Israel because of its stance on the same principles of civil rights and civil liberties that we support (or have, at our best, traditionally supported) in the west. I have a hard time understanding how anyone here in the US who has been oppressed -- or could be oppressed -- for being different: be it for being a minority, for being gay, or whatever reason -- could be anti Israel. They would likely be put to death or severely marginalized by any of the other countries in the region.
