I just sent this open letter to Fundlky and The Independent: I’m shocked that Fundly are serving this page to the public: https://fundly/get-taylor-swift-a-booty I consider this offensive as it propagates NEGATIVE BODY IMAGE and given the notoriety of people involved will have a disproportionate impact on cultural standards. In effect socially normalising body shaming in the impressionable minds of those that follow such ‘celebrities’. Although your site attempts to say you have no responsibility for ‘user content’ you do post terms of use and it seems to me that since you identify classes of content that are not acceptable you have a duty of care to ensure content you understand to be unacceptable is not served by your software and systems to the public, myself included. I understand you may not have budgeted for the resources to apply editorial diligence within your business model, but it is beyond belief that this campaign has not come to your attention given the coverage it is receiving. Your continued serving of this content therefore seems to me not just derelict but in fact supportive. I also note that within the ‘blog’ section – which is clearly not a formal part of the published campaign itself (and may well be missed by supoprters), the organiser states that they have no intention of using the funds acquired for the campaign’s stated purposed but will redirect them to some unspecified ‘battered womens shelters’ – which to my mind borders upon intent to defraud any supporters. I wonder if this form of campaign is generally allowed for within your service? This whole sordid piece, I believe, reeks of harassment, intimidation, offensiveness, a common lack of decency, potential fraud and worst of all supportive of body shaming bullying. Shame upon you. I would very much like to know what your intended course of action is. With the kindest of my regards Ant Smith
