I just want to share my personal stance on wildlife rehabilitation - TopicsExpress

I just want to share my personal stance on wildlife rehabilitation with you guys and get your opinions on it. Recently (yesterday), I received a phone call to assist an aquatic turtle of some type (guessing yellow bellied or RES x YSB hybrid) who was apparently attacked by large birds when he was basking on the shore. My personal take on rehabilitation is to leave wild, well, wild. If an animal falls victim and sustains injury/medical problems from some type of human interaction or cause, then I will attend to it. This also applies to unnatural interactions/situations, like dogs attacking wildlife as the dog is not a natural predator, and at the end of it all, himanity is to blamr for that negative interaction. But I wont touch animals that sustained injury or fell victim to natural animals/environmental events. I understand that animals that are injured, no matter the scenario, need medical attention, in the perfect, Utopian world. But my philosophy surrounds the idea, how can we expect our wildlife to thrive in the future if we do not allow those animals, and their generations to come, if we do not allow them to adapt and evolve? Im leaving this question open to everyone, and appreciate all opinions on the matter, but Im interested to hear what my fellow rehabilitators have to say on the subject.
