I just wanted to post something that has been an issue with Chrysler Jeeps, and will continue to be a problem because they dont want to include labour, plus parts to fix every jeep out there. As a jeep owner its been frustrating. After 100k, my jeep started to deteriorate and started to shake, rattle an of course roll in different directions. So, youd think the shocks are going, right? Or is time to upgrade the parts in order to fix the problem? So, I did! With a 3.5 lift, bigger tires, beefier steering stabilizer and control arms... only to have the same problem come back after 10k!! Back to forums I go. Looking for answers and suggestions for the shimmy, uncontrollable steering almost death wobble lead me to believe it could be ball joints, drag link or track bar. What if all of this wasnt the case? What if its a bunch of small vibrations causing the problem? Or what if its as simple as the wrong size bolt placed in every moving joint in the jeep? The Chrysler quick fix bulletin about the issue states that the Jeep needs to have its bolts torqued regularly to 125lbs. WELL...sure you can tighten them all you want!! Thatll hide the annoying shimmy...or damage your bushing...or simply replace the bolts like I did I have 2009 Jeep JK Unlimited Wrangler. The below are the bolts required for this fix. This fix will work on 2007 - 2014 Jeeps. (4) Domestic 9/16‐18 X 3 Grade 8 Hex Head Cap Screw Yellow Zinc for track bars (8) Domestic 9/16‐18 X 4 Grade 8 Hex Head Cap Screw Yellow Zinc for control arms (12) 9/16‐18 Grade C All Metal Hex Lock Nut Zinc (24) 9/16 Super 9 SAE (Type A Narrow) Flat Washer Yellow Zinc You will not find these at your local home depot or part source but at an independent or specialty shop or buy it as kit online for 45 dollars plus shipping, it only cost me 42 dollars at CCS industrial. This YouTube video shows exactly what is and what will happen. I just hope sharing my experience with this will help you. Lesson learned: If youre going to lift your jeep in the future because you still use factory bolts and these parts should be added when getting your lift installed. Dont end up like me; paying twice for the labor as I wasnt aware at time of my lift install.
