I just wanted to update everyone on little Hailey. Last week she was breathing shallow and they did a chest xray of her lungs. In this xray, her lungs looked fine but they noticed her heart was enlarged. Then came an Echo of her heart which showed she has 2 holes in her heart (VSD and ASD), a narrowed aorta, and a PDF that never closed. Friday of last week she was taken into heart surgery to open up her aorta and close the PDA. These were supposed to help her heart function normally until she gets to 8-10 pounds when she should be big enough to handle open heart surgery to close the VSD and ASD. Things in surgery went very well, she was recovering nicely and was even taken off the ventilator and breathing on her own Sunday. Monday morning Ryan and I went in and she was not doing well. Her blood pressure and heart rate dropped to a critical level. Something happened, which no one is really sure of the cause yet, but her lungs tightened. Since air couldnt get into the lungs good, they went through her VSD in the heart and back out to her body, unoxygenated. Because of this, several organs took quite a hit and are now trying to recover. Only time will tell what damage was done to her brain, lungs, kidneys, liver and bowels. At the moment, we have to reason to believe nothing was damaged beyond repair. She will need lots of medical intervention these next couple of weeks as her body/organs work to repair themselves. Please say lots of prayers for our sweet Hailey Jean as she starts another journey to recovery. This two week old has endured so much and I know shes doing as well as she is because of all the support and prayers from everyone. THANK YOU from all of us and keep the prayers coming!
