I just watched the Food, Inc. documentary... I think Im going to become a vegetarian. Haha, not entirely true. This was a really good eye-opener but a little overwhelming. I agree with a lot of what they discussed. The industry in itself has been monopolized and it is sad that the small farms are being manipulated by large companies and have to produce so much, yet the average only makes $18,000/year. We are in a now and fast culture. Its sad to see the chickens mass grown, plumped up so everyone can have the same size large white chicken breast. They cant even take more than a few steps because they are so overfed. Cows live their lives knee deep in their own manure and only are fed corn products. Im not against eating meat. I think God has given them to us and has allowed us to do so. And I dont believe we should have the same (or more) respect for animals as humans. But I dont believe in mistreating and having a lack of care for them, as if they were a piece of furniture. And I also believe that we need to support those farmers that have stood against the pressure of the industry. There are still farms out there that let their animal feed on vegetation from the earth, freedom to roam, and take care of them. At the end of the day, they still kill them for our consumption, but its not the same. I want to take so much action, but financially I dont know how. Only buying farm-raised and organic products is pricey. Does anyone have a thoughts?
