I just watched the Monica Lewinsky talk that she gave and you know, I am surprisingly extremely impressed. I have a confession and its something Im ashamed to admit. I never once thought of her as a person. I never considered the whole media shitstorm that came down on her from her point of view. That says something I dont like about myself. Her talk did get me to listen to her view. And I am quite amazed she didnt kill herself. Her talk was a brave thing to do. To listen to her talk, Im convinced shes a pretty intelligent person. Very well spoken and mature now. Shes aged extremely well and thats not just a judgement on her looks. What I mean by that is she has survived and is looking healthy and happy. She looks great and considering everything she has been through, Im kind of shocked it didnt noticeably affect her more. She did enter into a private relationship with her boss that she loved. Thats the part of the story she has responsibility for, but there are millions of things that happened to her that were unfair after that. And of course that story will follow her everyday of the rest of her life. She knows this and Im convinced she is strong enough to survive it. I saw the news story that Monica Lewinsky joined Twitter and my first thought was How can I make a funny comment about this? I didnt do it, but only because I couldnt think of an original joke at this point. Well, Im better than that now. This woman is now just trying to live the rest of her life and speak out to help other people survive online shaming like she did. Im not going to mock that. I dont think I ever considered coming online and praising Monica Lewinsky. But today, that is exactly what I am doing. Seriously, watch her talk. Its her first one shes ever given publicly. And she did an extremely good job. And note: Yes, I am aware Hillary is (most assuredly) running for president and there are politics involved in this as well. Try to look at what she actually said in her talk and see if you can get past the politics just for today. Watch the talk first if that is what you are about to type in the comments. I honestly believe she was being earnest in her words and Im praising her for that.
