I kept waiting for some miracle, some deliverance, some change, - TopicsExpress

I kept waiting for some miracle, some deliverance, some change, unforeseeable, untraceable to any natural cause, anything that might intervene so that I wouldnt have to wash her hair, so that would not be my fate. But then I had to do it. The flesh of her shoulders was shockingly buoyant. She had the shoulders of a girl, and then, with no warning or transition, the tired upper arms, the sag and droop of age. The straps of her brassiere, pink and yellowish from neglect, dug into her shoulders. I wanted to tell her that she needed new brassieres, but I knew shed resist the suggestion, and it would be another task for me -- to convince her, then to buy them -- so I said nothing.
