I killed off my Neftlix streaming account today -- Ive got too many DVDs and items I want to see in rep houses to be paying for streaming (plus there are free streaming sites that have better choices of movies). In any case I decided as my final viewing on that time-sucker to watch two pics by Errol Morris (both minor but good) and the last two by Francis Coppola. Tetro is quite visually striking (it could be called Rumble Fish 2), but the storyline has some serious cliches, and the presence of Vincent Gallo is always a negative for me. Twixt is a really curious creation -- a vampire film with a girl vamp ghost (Elle Fanning), a quirky sheriff (the wonderful Bruce Dern), and a down-on-his-luck horror novelist (the somewhat rounder Val Kilmer). Best surprises in the pic: Don Novello plays a supporting role and Tom Waits does the opening narration. Again, some fascinating stuff, including an emphasis on Poe, but it doesnt all quite hang together. Nice to see Francis return to his Corman roots, though....
