I know TWO women who deserve the award of woman of the year, and they are both from Huyton. Sadly one of them, Julianne Durkin OBrien is no longer with us. But the woman who had a tremendous influence on Julianne, was her Mum Julie Brown Durkin , and I will be nominating her for this award. I hope that many others will nominate her too. Juliannes son, Conor has an illness called SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) which leaves him unable to walk or talk, he is 11 years old. With unconditional support from his Mum and family, Conor has fought against many odds throughout his short life so far, battling against his illness, and yet despite this he lives life to the full. Julianne supported and influenced many other Mothers of disabled children who knew of her dedication to Conor, always ensuring all of Conors needs were met, no matter how hard that was. Julianne passed away suddenly on 1st Aug 2014, she was 32. Since then Juliannes mum, Julie Brown Durkin has continued to be the rock in the family, to her husband. four daughters, son and grandchildren, pulling out all stops and supporting daughter Lindsey every step of the way when she was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the terrible heartache that she is suffering from the loss of Julianne, Julie has put her heart and soul into the support of Conor and Juliannes husband Phil and son Cameron, and more specifically, by working hard to raise money to fund a voice aid to enable Conor to be able to communicate. I know Julie Brown Durkin is an inspiration to many people who know her. If you know her, then please nominate her for this award.
