I know a lot of people in Hancock county like to rally to the cause of our children first!!! because after all, they have bred a generation of kids that expect things to just be handed to them. Well I think its time for the people to put their money, or votes, where their mouths are. There is going to be a vote on the renewal of the school levy coming up soon. It is NOT a new levy, NO NEW TAXES will be set. It is simply a renewal of the current levy passed a couple of years ago that built the new sports complexes in both Weirton and Oak Glen. I have heard of people campaigning against this, and I cant for the life of me understand why. If it fails, sports in the county will become PAY TO PLAY. Your children will no longer be able to freely participate in extracurricular athletics. The funds to keep the new complexes will diminish quickly. Most importantly, though people around here dont seem to place any importance on this at all, teachers will be forced to continue to but school supplies for the student out of their own pockets. For once in your lives, actually do what you say you stand for, and vote for this thing for your children. Dont just say your behind them all the while your just using them for your own arguments elsewhere.
