I know a number of people who are members of the BDP but privately - TopicsExpress

I know a number of people who are members of the BDP but privately concede that the party is in a mess and that they really do not know what the party stands for anymore. The only reason they remain members is that they believe that it is the only party through which they can win elections in their locality. This week I had a chat with one BDP MP who once joined BMD. He candidly told me that he defected back because it was tough in the opposition. He was tired of associates who remained in the BDP but privately congratulated him for taking a principled stand to leave the party as it had abandoned all its values, yet they remained in the BDP and enjoyed the benefits of being in a ruling party. Principle does not put food on the table, was his parting shot. I always admire people who take difficult decisions that are aimed at changing society even when it comes at a great personal sacrifice. I am proud that we have many such people in the BCP, some not even in the leadership structures of the party. One such unsung hero is Kelofentse Phetolo. He recently resigned his job at the Auditor Generals office to contest as BCP Parliamentary candidate for Letlhakeng Lephephe constituency. The BCP has never contested elections in this area. He knows that it will be a very complex and trying journey, but he is prepared to walk the difficult path because he believes in the BCP dream for a better Botswana. He could have invested his resources in trying to win the primaries of the bigger parties but he has chosen principle ahead of opportunity and convenience. Tomorrow, I will travel to the village of Letlhakeng to present Kelofentse Phetolo and his team of 8 council candidates to the constituency. I am humbled by his commitment to the party even where victory may seem distant. I could have used the time to go and assist a winnable constituency but I think it makes sense to go and support those who have chosen to climb the steepest available mountain. It is for the same reason that I will also make time in my schedule to go and assist comrades who will be contesting the 3 Serowe constituencies. They are Ready to Lead in spreading the message of hope where it has not yet arrived. Would you have the courage to march into battle in an area where you know the opponents are deeply entrenched and have superior weaponry?
