I know most of us have been really saddened to hear about Robin - TopicsExpress

I know most of us have been really saddened to hear about Robin Williams, we lost a brilliant actor and human being and -for most of us- a part of our childhood. But the truth is that we didn’t know him personally and as with all news like this one, time will pass and we will go back to our daily lives and not think about it anymore. While we do so a lot of people we PERSONALLY know will STILL be struggling with mental health problems and probably not dare to talk about it. When one of my friends faced a horrible depression a few years ago and had the scariest suicidal thoughts, her GP put her on a waiting list for a therapist. Only charities like the Samaritans and Mind helped to ease her burden a little bit. It shouldn’t be the case. People who are at their most vulnerable shouldn’t have to battle for recognition, support or treatment. Some mental health illnesses are life threatening conditions and it’s about time we start treating them as such. So let’s all do our part and donate, volunteer, go to a benefit screening tonight… but also let’s make sure to keep the issue in the conversation, on the government’s priority list, in the news, way way after having lost Robin Williams. Let’s not lose more brilliant people.
