I know one thing for certain....I really like Wisconsin...but my future visits will DEFINITELY be when it isnt mosquito season! I decided to do todays hike EARLY so we could avoid the heat....so I set out for Sparta...the other end of the Elroy-Sparta trail. It was easy to find. Sparta considers itself the Bicycle Capital of America. The trail started out nicely....and then the scenery changed....we passed by a huge electric plant and then over a highway...and then.....it ran alongside a swamp...which meant TONS of mosquitoes! Not a problem when you are on bikes...but walking...YIKES! They were swarming! then...to top it off...people were shooting off guns nearby...so every time the shots rang...my dogs jumped! Anyway...that was Hike 28! After that I decided that there was one last thing I wanted to visit in Wisconsin before hitting the road to the show site in MN. I had read about a park that housed a large collection of concrete sculptures that were then embedded with glass. Its called the Wegner Grotto. In the early 30s a husband and his wife...neither of them artists...yet both interested in creativing...started making these elements in their front lawn. After they passed away the county took the land over and is doing a lot of upgrading...as things had fallen into the need for repair. It was a free exhibit..and nice to walk through...imagining the couple spending their time together creating things. From there....I hit the road! Decided to use the REAL GPS today to get me to the how site...and indoor soccer arena....with AWESOME surfacing...heavily padded turf. Since I have such a large vehicle...haha...they are having me park on the road. Not a problem! the road is quiet and newly paved! And I can get closer than if in the parking lot! I helped them unload equipment....man am I glad we own our own trailers and do not have to keep stuff in storage! Then I set up my three crates....all ready for tomorrows show! When I got to the campground the girl behind the desk said...you must be Wendy! Ummmm...yes...she said I was the last one to check in...now they are full! haha Soooo...my experience here is affording me LOTS to talk about with my areas and facilities class. They built the campground NEXT TO A WETLANDS AREA!!!! There are ALWAYS mosquitoes!!!! I dont get it! Thus...we are spending the evening INSIDE the RV! Its so sad to see them all over the dogs eyes and ears.... Short post today...still adventurous. tomorrow we are back to agility...and a new frontier begins for Odie!
