I know that some people are dubious about the merits of the Seven Dials redesign. I have to declare an interest in that I was knocked off my motorbike on the old roundabout and avoided it as a potential death trap ever since. Personally I think the new design is a great improvement. It is safer to get across (by car, bus, bike and on foot) and has greatly improved the general environment there. I have yet to find a business based at the Dials who does not think trade has been boosted as a result. The Council is aware that some of drive over part of the roundabout needs repairing. This will be covered by the contractor under the normal guarantees of such work but not till after Christmas. The delay is to ensure there is no disruption at the Dials immediately prior to Christmas. I thought this best practice guide from the Dept of Transport on urban street design is interesting.
