I know we talk a lot about the greatest generation. Let me tell - TopicsExpress

I know we talk a lot about the greatest generation. Let me tell you something about the greatest generation. In 1944, Nazi Germany owned the world. They were deep within Russia, and Russia was busy spending millions (no exagerration) of lives to protect themselves.Germany OWNED Europe. Then one morning, a few thousand American (and British, and Canadian) men waded ashore on the French coast, saying screw YOU, Nazi Germany, this is NOT how it is going to be. And in the case of Omaha Beach, those American men (and by men, I mean 17 and 18 year old boys) waded ashore literally, LITERALLY into the teeth of German machine guns. They ate it and they moved forward. They died on the beach and they moved forward. They GAVE THEIR BLOOD ON THAT BEACH AND THEY MOVED FORWARD. Until you have had someone firing a gun at you in anger, you cannot appreciate what that entailed. You cannot appreciate the sacrifice. They ate the bullets, and they moved on. And they moved forward. And they cleared the machine gun nests. And they cleared the bocage. And they cleared the roads and the villages. And they paid for all of that in blood. Because the German troops on Omaha Beach, and at Normandy, did not retreat; they stood, and fought, and fell back because the Allied Forces that landed forced them to, and that price was paid in blood, and that price was very dear. The world is what it is, and we have the freedom to express who we are, the way we want, because 70 years ago our ancestors paid a blood price. Always respect that. ALWAYS.
