I left St. Louis on Tuesday evening not exactly sure where I was going to stay in New York when I landed... at 9pm. A quick Kayak search revealed that it was going to be expensive to stay in Manhattan. The places that looked like they might be reasonably priced turned out to be a pod or a bunk bed. So... I dont do pods or bunk beds. I also dont spend $600/night on hotel rooms. The risk-taker in me decided to roll the dice on Priceline. As long as it was really a four star hotel, it should be fine, right? I held my breath when the Priceline deal went though. Id never heard of this place. But it was a sweet place... more than fine... which is why I feel like I can pass on a recommendation for Hotel Mela - one block off of Times Square. Tiny little rooms, with only the essentials, but just enough for the business traveler and, at a last minute deal of $221/night, less than half the price of other hotels in the same area and only about $65 more than sharing a bunk bed or a pod with strangers. #worthit 😉
