I live a pretty modest existence here in Mexico. I dont get to - TopicsExpress

I live a pretty modest existence here in Mexico. I dont get to follow a lot of the hobbies I did in the States. I do enjoy my garden/yard though. We live on an old lava field, so it is really rocky out there. I have a guy that comes and helps me out with the really hard stuff. We broke up a lot of the lava boulders to make the yard more walkable and used the pieces in landscaping some new spots as well. One of my main goals is the attraction of butterflies and hummingbirds. To that end I have a lot of heliconians, bananas and some random flowering plants. I have a soft spot for tulipanes (hibiscus), so when I see an unusual color at the vivero and I have a few pesos in pocket I usually end up digging a new hole. The downside to the butterfly part is the caterpillars can do some serious damage to the plants, but in the end you get more butterflies, so a small sacrifice. The yard is only about 20 meters by 20 meters. It still takes over an hour to water when it needs it in the dry season, every other day. We have jungle on 3 sides and the garden itself is just random plantings that I find aesthetically pleasing. Like a slightly more civilized version of the jungle just over the wall. We have fruiting plants. Papaya, banana, passion fruit and more as well as some medicinals like arnica. I have 4 or 5 different varieties of banana, NONE of which are producing yet... I put this up mostly for my Mom, Yolanda, but thought someone else might enjoy it as well. Thank my beautiful wife Belem for the photos.
