I live among such talented people. I recently received this email from our farm management committee (aka Marcus Wenzel) and I think he used every chicken-and-egg metaphor known to literature. I chuckled all the way through it. Ready? Here goes: Hello everyone, As we strap on our spurs for another season on the Village Farm, I wanted to let you know that we haven’t chickened out from our mission to convince the County Planning Commission to let us establish a chicken Coupe de Ville in the center of the Farm. The last meeting we had with County in Spring 2013 ended somewhat ambiguously, with the Mayor and Council wishing that we could get our chickens, but that more information and data needed to be collected before they could render a decision. In short, while they recognize the unique mission of our Village Farm, the Council was concerned about the potential precedence a decision like this might hold for other Monmouth neighborhoods. While that particular effort may have laid an egg, we don’t intend to let this idea fly the coop that easily. Without squawking too loudly, it is our intention to again gently poke the Council towards acting on our request. In an effort to avoid being caught with egg on our face when we make our next presentation, it would be helpful for us to have a newer data set from Edwards Addition residents on their attitudes towards the Farm keeping a small flock of chickens. For those of you that have an opinion on the matter, would you mind sharing it? Please click here to take an anonymous 3 question survey. While it is important that everyone’s voices are heard, we think it is especially important for those homeowners whose property borders the perimeter of the farm to share their input. Thank you, The Farm Management Committee
