I lived in Seattle when this blew up. I will never forget this. I remember my friends who lived in Ellensburg, where much of the ash fell. They told me that they thought the end of the world was happening. They were in Church and noticed it was getting dark. They looked outside and were shocked to see the gigantic ash cloud coming. It completely engulfed them and it became pitch black. They had a very hard time breathing. No one had any idea this was from Mount Saint Helens as no one thought it would be this big of a explosion. After this happened people started making all kinds of stuff from the ash. I got ash infused soap bars. Christmas ornaments made from melted ash. Statues made from ash. All kinds of stuff. I wish I would have kept some of it just for fun. I can only imagine how deadly this will be when Mount Rainier blows up. There are whole areas of housing all around that mountain and several rivers that go into the ocean. Those rivers are lined with housing communities and would be wiped out from the massive snow melt and debris from trees and hot mud.
