I love Tom Petty. Ironic. Saturday amongst the drunk beer tasting crowd, Linder and I were walking home from a popular establishment, OCG, which stands for Oak City Grill or Obsessive Compulsive Grill because you just have to go there. Along the short trek home there were a few people singing to Free Fallin and I thought to myself, yeah, who doesnt sing along to that song. Such a cool tune. And today Thomas Earl Petty is 64. Throughout his career, Petty has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. In 2002, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Did I mention I love Tom Petty. Love most everything hes recorded, and his 6 or 7 live shows rank among the top 25 in my time. Hes an artist that has surrounded himself with top notch musicians. Seriously, if you dont think Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell are amazing artists then, well, there is no discussion on that. Howie Epstein also a great bass player and Ron Blair who came back after Howies death in 2002. From one southern boy to another.
